Shezi returns home for 2016/17

As contract negotiations continue at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead, the home of the Sunfoil Dolphins, Mthokozisi Shezi has confirmed that he will return to his home province on a full time basis ahead of the 2016/17 season.

Shezi, who has been on loan from the Cape Cobras for much of the second half of the current season, is a KwaZulu-Natal product through and through, having been schooled at Glenwood High School and emerging through the province’s age group, Suncoast Dolphins Academy and amateur ranks.

After turning out for the national Under-19 and South Africa ‘A’, the 28 year-old left arm seamer went on to gain full national honours when he represented the Proteas in an ODI against Zimbabwe in August 2014 while having also accumulated a wealth of domestic experience since his first class debut ten years ago.

“I am very excited about returning to Durban and the Sunfoil Dolphins!” confirmed Shezi. “It has been on the cards for some time now and it’s great to have confirmed everything now.”

“The squad is in a process of change but the vibe in the squad is really good and there is a real desire to prepare well and ultimately go on to win silverware for the Dolphins and I’m excited to be part of that,” he added.

After making the move from Durban to Cape Town in the winter of 2014, Shezi hopes to now pass some of the lessons he learnt during his time away on to the Dolphins crop of emerging, young fast bowlers.

“I have learnt a lot, both as a player and as a person from my time in Cape Town and I hope that this will stand me in good stead going forward at the Dolphins.

“If I can impart some of that knowledge to the team then I am excited to be able to do that.

“I want to add value wherever I can,” said Shezi.

Sunfoil Dolphins CEO Pete de Wet has welcomed Shezi’s return wishes him well for both the remainder of the current season as well as the franchise’s 2016/17 campaign.

“It is great to welcome Mthokozisi back home!” said De Wet. “We know that his experience will add to an already solid, well balanced squad.”

“The contracting period is a critical time in the preparation of the squad for the new season and we have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure that we get this right.

“The process is almost complete and as soon as everything is finalised we will confirm the full Franchise and Semi-Pro squads for the new season,” he added.
