Roelofsen ton helps Dolphins fight back in Oudtshoorn

Durban – A second innings century, and second in as many games, from Grant Roelofsen helped the Hollywoodbets Dolphins gain the upper-hand in their 4-Day Domestic Series match with the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras in Oudtshoorn on Wednesday.

Roelofsen finished a day shortened by a significant storm on 139 not out and has given his side an advantage of 199 runs going into the fourth and final day on Thursday.

The Dolphins were in search of early wickets at the start of day four with four wickets to get and a deficit of eighty runs between the two sides.

It went as close to perfectly as the Dolphins could have wanted with four wickets falling for the addition of just one run in twenty deliveries.

Prenelan Subrayen picked up the potentially dangerous George Linde in the first over of the morning before seamer Kerwin Mungroo tasted success for the first time in the match in the next over.

The seamer bagged the wickets of the overnight batsman Jason Smith for twenty and then two balls later had Dane Paterson back in the change room for a duck.

Senuran Muthusamy then conceded one run in the next over before Mungroo picked up his third wicket in eight deliveries, trapping Dane Piedt in front for a single.

The momentum was with the Dolphins as they went into bat trying to erase the 81 run difference and after losing Sarel Erwee early captain Marques Ackerman and Grant Roelofsen put the Cobras bowlers to task.

Their partnership for the second wicket was worth 96 runs off just 82 deliveries as the pair plundered the Cobras attack to all parts of the Recreation Ground.

Ackerman was the second wicket to fall for an entertaining 69 off just 53 deliveries which included twelve fours and a six.

Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Cody Chetty didn’t last long and fell in consecutive balls with the score on 156.

At the loss of the fourth wicket the Dolphins had a lead of 75 runs.

Roelofsen was joined by Muthusamy and the new combination righted the ship once again with another strong partnership.

The partnership was worth 76 runs and Muthusamy witnessed Roelofsen go to his second ton in as many matches when he the opener went past three figures for the eighth time in his first class career.

Muthusamy was caught by the wicket keeper Kyle Verreynne off the bowling of Dane Piedt for 33. At the loss of the fifth wicket the Dolphins lead by 151 runs.

When the storm arrived the Dolphins were 280 for six, Roelofsen and Mangaliso Mosehle on 139 and three respectively.
