Maritzburg contest heats up on day two

Pietermaritzburg – The CSA 4-Day Franchise Series clash between the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and the WSB Cape Cobras is heating up as the visitors finished the second day on 245 for three, still trailing the Dolphins by 65 runs.

Starting the day on 293 for six the Dolphins couldn’t press home their strong start and were bowled out for 310 with Senuran Muthusamy being the second to last victim out for 36.

Keshav Maharaj couldn’t add to his overnight score when he fell for 20. Eathan Bosch was dismissed first ball by Vernon Philander and Keith Dudgeon chipped in with eight that saw the Dolphins to their final resting spot.

With the ball the Dolphins struck early as Dudgeon removed Simon Khomari for 14, the Cobras were 29 for one.

Pieter Malan and Zubayr Hamza looked threatening and put on 68 for the second wicket before spinner Senuran Muthusamy had Malan stumped for 44.

David Bedingham then took the attack to the bowlers and scored quickly before a quiet patch led to his demise. He was caught by Sibz Makhanya off the bowling of Okhule Cele for 37.

From there Hamza went on to register a first hundred for this 4-Day Franchise series campaign. He was ably supported by Kyle Verreynne who was 41 not out when the players had to leave the field for bad light.

Their partnership is worth 84 runs and the Cobras will head into the third day of the contest 243 for three.

Dolphins spinners Keshav Maharaj and Senuran Muthusamy have bowled a combined 46 overs between them so far and the home side will be hoping they can provide the all-important break-through on Wednesday.
