Township & Rural Development

Initiated in 2007, the KZNCU, DSR and Sunfoil Township and Rural Development Programme was born out of the need to introduce cricket to townships and rural areas in Kwazulu-Natal where it was non-existent, and virtually unheard of.

The programme currently works with close to 8000 children in 36 townships and rural areas across the province, as far as KwaMashu, Gamalakhe and Mtubatuba, affording them both an opportunity to play cricket, as well as creating platforms whereby they can change their set of circumstances (for example, through facilitating bursaries at top schools for talented cricketers).

A programme on this scale requires ample resources on various fronts. Whilst we enjoy the support of various organisations, which share our vision and recognise the effectiveness of our work, and have come on board as partners, we continue to face numerous challenges due to a lack of adequate resources.
