Durban – It was a clean sweep of victories for the Hollywoodbets KZN Inland and Hollywood KZN Coastal teams on the opening day of the 2019 CSA Provincial T20 Cup on Friday.
The Inland side won both of their fixtures in Kimberley on the day thanks largely to two dominant performances with ball in the first, and then the bat in the second by Rob Frylinck.
The Hollywoodbets Dolphins all-rounder bagged figures of four for seven in the first clash, which included a hat-trick, against South Western Districts and then against Eastern Province he got his side over the line with an unbeaten 51 off 25 balls.
The morning started well for the KZN Inland side when they cruised home to victory by eight wickets against SWD.
Bowling first, Frylinck’s three-in-three helped Inland bundle the men from Oudtshoorn out for 118.
Also amongst the wickets were Kerwin Mungroo and spinner Kyle Nipper.
The reply was a formality as openers Cody Chetty and Grant Roelofsen broke the back of the chase with an opening stand of 96 in just under 12 overs.
Chetty top scored with 45 not out and Roelofsen was dismissed for 43 while Nipper chimed in with 18 off 11 balls to get his side over the line with five overs to spare.
The second game of the day for Inland saw them come up against a strong Eastern Province side for the top spot in Pool B.
The side from Port Elizabeth started well and looked set for a score close to 200, however Inland clawed their way back into the contest taking wickets regularly in the second half of the innings.
Left-arm spinner Nipper was amongst the wickets picking up three for 22 in his four overs while young Hilton College pupil Michael Booth finished with two for 27.
The Inland chase started patiently however the side lost three wickets for seven runs to be 44 for three in the seventh over.
Nipper once again played a vital role scoring 37 off 27 balls and then the job was left to Frylinck who blasted five sixes and two fours to get his side over the line with six balls to spare.
The Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal side started as well as possible when they beat a strong Gauteng side by 12 runs in their opening game in Benoni.
It was a low-scoring affair with Coastal managing to scrape their way to 124 for eight in their 20 overs with Eathan Bosch top scoring with 21.
In reply the bowling was tight and Gauteng fell 12 runs short – finishing on 112 for eight.
Dolphins bowlers Daryn Dupavillon and Prenelan Subrayen both bagged two wickets for Coastal.
Saturday will see Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal play two matches, their first clash is against table toppers Northerns while they face Easterns in their final game of the day.
Hollywoodbets KZN Inland take on Northern Cape in their only game of the day on Saturday.
