Knights to provide next MODC test for Dolphins

With three wins from their first four Momentum One Day Cup matches, the second-placed Hollywoodbets Dolphins will take on the VKB Knights at Kingsmead on Saturday.

The Dolphins started the competition brightly and currently sit just behind the Warriors on the overall log and with three home games over the next two weeks the Durban side has an opportunity to regain that spot at the summit starting this weekend.

Despite the defeat to the Warriors on Tuesday, captain Khaya Zondo does not feel that the side needs to look too deeply into what happened in the last outing.

“We do bat deep and we always back ourselves to bat 50 overs, however it just didn’t happen on the day,” he said.

“We have managed to do that in the previous three games that we have won. Sometime it happens and we will move on.”

In their opening three games the Dolphins managed to score over 300 twice which is an illustration of what their batting line up can do.

The Knights have battled through the start of the campaign and currently occupy the bottom spot on the log, with three losses and a no result from their opening four fixtures.

With only 10 games between the start and the semi-final, it is crucial to start well and with the start they have had Zondo believes that his side have set a strong platform for themselves heading into the middle section of the campaign.

“If you had said that we would have won three of our first four games before the tournament I definitely would have taken it!

“We cannot lose the momentum and just have to make sure that we continue getting on the right side of the results.”

The Proteas begin their One Day International series against Sri Lanka this weekend which means the Dolphins will lose Andile Phehlukwayo, Dave Miller and Imran Tahir to the national side, but they gain back the services of Keshav Maharaj and all-rounder Robbie Frylinck.

“It’s a loss losing the Proteas guys but we have more than capable replacements.

“We have a strong squad so that is not too much of an issue.”

Gates at Kingsmead open at 11:30 with the first ball at 13:30.
