Hollywoodbets Dolphins youngsters come to the fore early in their 4-Day campaign

Durban – With a win and a draw to their early season card, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins have put faith in a crop of up-and-coming players in their first two CSA 4-Day Domestic Series matches.

The Dolphins dominated the AET Tuskers in their first match of the season and blooded two youngster with Sean Gilson and Theesan Naiker making their full Dolphins debuts in their win.

Gilson contributed with both the bat and the ball registering a half century and picking up wickets.

Encouragingly for the Dolphins, both players are products of the Dolphins pipeline and were educated in KwaZulu-Natal and forced their way into the Dolphins set-up through the Hollywoodbets Dolphins High Performance Academy.

In the Dolphins draw with the Momentum Multiply Titans this week, the Dolphins had to rely on another pair of youngsters with Slade van Staden and Brad Porteous playing crucial roles in giving the Dolphins a fighting chance.

Both players registered half centuries in both innings with Van Staden falling agonisingly short of a first first-class century, making 93 in the second innings.

Again, both Porteous and Van Staden are products of the Hollywoodbets Dolphins pipeline having been schooled at Kearsney College and Hilton College respectively.

Porteous is no stranger to Dolphins colours and was the stand-out player for the side during the CSA One Day Cup. He was named One-Day Player of the Year at the Hollywoodbets Dolphins annual awards.

For Dolphins coach Imraan Khan, seeing players coming through the system and performing for the Dolphins on the biggest stage is encouraging.

“We are proud of the young guys coming into the side and making an impact early on in their professional careers,” Khan said.

“The roles that the young guys have played so far this season has been quite significant, and it’s a testament to the hard work that is done behind the scenes in the academy and by the high performance group.

“The example set by these younger players will hopefully give players at school confidence that they can break into the professional set-up here at the Dolphins.”

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins next face the GBets Rocks in Paarl from 30 November to 3 December.
