All the best to the KZNCU Hubs team which will participate in this year’s edition of the Sunfoil Under 13 Night Series in Gauteng from the 16 to 19 March.
The team – comprising players from various hubs across KZN – gathered at Kingsmead in the early hours of this morning to board a bus to Gauteng. Some parents were also present to wish the boys good luck and see them off, and each boy was given a goodie bag sponsored by a Durban-based NGO.
In Gauteng, the team will join nine other teams in competing for top honours in the T20 tournament which is hosted by the Central Gauteng Lions, in partnership with Cricket South Africa, the Mogale City Local Municipality and Sunfoil.
Sanelisiwe Mzimela, the manager of the KZNCU RPC/Hubs Development Programme said that the experience was important to the boys from various perspectives. “They get to experience playing in different conditions,” she explained. “For example, they are going to be experiencing playing under lights for the first time.”
“Using a white ball is also a totally new and exciting experience for them. Also, Gauteng has thinner air, which means the ball travels much quicker through it, reaching the boundary quicker, and the speed off the bat will be quicker as well.”
She added that competing against teams from other provinces also gave the boys and their coaches an opportunity to understand if their standard of play has improved. “This will give the boys a chance to learn and discover new things in terms of their cricketing aspirations.”
The team comprises: Sfundo Mthembu (Outer West Hub), Prince Shezi (uMlazi Hub), Bayanda Majola (INK Hub), Sbusiso Msibi (INK Hub), Mfanafuthi Shange (INK Hub), Bandile Mbatha (uMlazi Hub), Lubanzi Ngcobo (uMlazi Hub), Nqubeko Ndlovu (uMlazi Hub), Shozi Akhule (uMlazi Hub), Olwethu Ntuli (Ilembe Hub), Bonke Gumede (Outer West Hub), Asanda Gina (INK Hub), Nkanyiso Nxumalo (INK Hub)
