Fans back as Dolphins gear up for One Day Cup

Durban – The Hollywoodbets Dolphins are eagerly looking forward to welcoming back spectators to Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium as they get their CSA One Day Cup campaign underway against the Momentum Multiply Titans on Sunday.

2000 fully vaccinated spectators will be allowed into the ground for the first time since the beginning of 2020 and the Dolphins players and staff are looking forward to having their fans back to the ground for what is expected to be another exciting 50 over competition.

“It’s been a while since we have played 50 over cricket and it is a format that we have played some consistent cricket in over the last few campaigns so we are looking forward to it,” coach Imraan Khan said.

“Having fans back is going to be awesome but so is playing some day and night cricket again. We haven’t had that for two years now so the guys are very excited to get going.

“It’s great to play at home in the first game but we know that we are going to have to play good cricket across the entire competition and stick to our processes throughout.”

With a shared trophy last season and winning it the season before the Dolphins will go into this year’s competition as one of the favourites to win. Khan believes that the basics have influenced that consistency.

“I think that we’ve just played simple cricket and guys have put in big performances throughout and we are hoping for more of the same this tournament.

“The nice thing about 50 over cricket is that you have time as a batter to get in and score big runs and from a bowling perspective you get rewarded for being consistent.

“It’s another big competition and we have to make sure that we stay motivated throughout the tournament,” Khan emphasised.

Having a fit squad to pick from is going to be crucial going into another intense campaign.

“We have got a full squad for the first game which will include our international players which we are happy about.

“From there we will rely on our usual squad of players but importantly from an injury perspective we have a clean bill of health going into the competition,” Khan added.

The Dolphins take on the Titans in their competition opener, a side that recently won the CSA 4-Day Domestic Series and will boast a number of Proteas stars for the clash this weekend and their test stars will remain with the side for the first five matches until the Bangladesh series.

“They are going to be confident and they have been playing good cricket throughout the season even in the T20.

“They will be competitive – they have always been competitive – so we are expecting a tough game but again we are looking forward to the challenge.”
