Dolphins lose out to Lions in T20 semi

Durban – The Hollywoodbets Dolphins fell to an eight wicket defeat to the bizhub Highveld Lions in their CSA T20 Challenge semi-final at the Wanderers on Wednesday.

The Dolphins made a fist of their batting innings and posted 163 for eight thanks mainly to a 47 by Vaughn van Jaarsveld.

Batting first openers Van Jaarsveld and Morné van Wyk started well putting on 54 for the first wicket before Van Wyk was run out for 32.

Two quick wickets followed with Cody Chetty and Khaya Zondo falling for six and four respectively.

At the end of ten overs the Dolphins were 75 for three.

The innings stopped and started through the final ten overs and Andile Phehlukwayo’s 25 from 18 balls and Keshav Maharaj’s 22 off nine balls helped the Dolphins to 163 for eight.

The Lions had close to the ideal start to their innings and scored freely from the outset.

Daryn Dupavillon dismissed Reeza Hendricks for six and then also bagged Ryan Rickelton for 35 off 19 balls.

Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen then guided their side home with an unbeaten partnership of 112.

Bavuma finished with 52 not out and Van der Dussen ended 69 not out booking their spot in the T20 Challenge final.
