Dolphins hope to begin 2020 with a bang

Durban – Following a much-needed break, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins will hope to hit the ground running in 2020 when they face the WSB Cape Cobras in the 4-Day Domestic Series beginning in Oudtshoorn on Monday.

It’s been a tough red ball campaign for the Dolphins thus far with three losses and two draws from their first five games in the competition.

Assistant coach of the Dolphins Quinton Friend understands that is has been a difficult competition but is excited for what the next five games have in store.

“Obviously things haven’t gone according to plan for us over the first part of the 4-Day competition,” Friend said. “We are going to look to play a positive brand of cricket going into the second part.

“It’s going to be crucial that we hold onto our chances when they do come our way and firing as a bowling unit.”

The Dolphins will welcome back Andile Phehlukwayo for the clash after he was released from the Standard Bank Proteas set-up.

The surface in Oudtshoorn will be on the slower side according to Friend which means that it could be a game where the spinners dominate.

“We are going to look in all likelyhood to play two spinners and three seamers on that surface. We had a look at it and I think it is going be a dry wicket which will bring the spinners into play.

“Having Andile back will make a big difference and I think having him in the squad adds a lot to the balance of our side going into this one,” Friend added.

The Dolphins will also welcome back the experienced Vaughn van Jaarsveld to bolster the batting line-up as well as Kerwin Mungroo who missed out on the final game of 2019.
