Dolphins go down to Warriors in PE

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins suffered their second defeat of the 2017 RAM SLAM T20 Challenge when they lost by one run to the Warriors at St George’s Park on Sunday evening. On what was a double header jam-packed with cricket in Port Elizabeth, the Multiply Titans beat the VKB Knights in the first clash of the day before the host overcame the men from Durban in the final over of an exciting contest.

One of the highlights for the Dolphins was all-rounder Rob Frylinck’s hat-trick in the penultimate over when he accounted for Christiaan Jonker, Sisanda Magala and Andrew Birch in consecutive deliveries that helped restrict the hosts to 153/8 in their 20 overs.

Experienced seamers Mthokozisi Shezi and Frylinck were the pick of the bowlers for the Dolphins returning with figures of 3/24 and 3/23 respectively.

The chase from the Dolphins battled to gain momentum with the Warriors bowlers pinning the free-flowing Dolphins back. One ball into the seventh over the Dolphins found themselves in trouble at 35/4.

With Sarel Erwee (8), Vaughn van Jaarsveld (0), Dane Vilas (3) and captain Khaya Zondo (1) back in the hut, Morné van Wyk and Sibs Makhanya attempted to rebuild the innings and they put together 60 runs before Makhanya fell for 33.

Van Wyk saw Andile Phehlukwayo come and go and then went to yet another T20 half century before he was run out for 57.

Frylinck and Keshav Maharaj attempted to guide their team home and in the final over they needed nine to win from the final two deliveries.

Andrew Birch managed to only concede a single with the penultimate delivery which was followed up by a huge six from Maharaj on the final delivery to see the home side win by one run.
