Dolphins fight back on day three in Cape Town

Following a tough day two, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins fought back hard on day three of their 4-Day Franchise Series Clash with the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras at Newlands taking a 153 run lead into the final day.

The Dolphins needed to finish off the Cobras innings as early as possible on Wednesday and they took the final two wickets for 20 runs with Robbie Frylinck bagging his 10th first class five wicket haul, finishing with 5/86 and the Cobras were bowled out for 337.

With 112 runs to erase before they could put together a defendable score, the Dolphins started soundly with Vaughn van Jaarsveld and SJ Erwee putting on 74 before the former was dismissed for 44.

With the deficit erased with Erwee and Cody Chetty at the wicket, Chetty was dismissed for 34 – helping the Dolphins into a lead of 17.

Unfortunately for the Durban side, captain Khaya Zondo was dismissed for a duck and then 12 runs later Erwee was caught for a patient 54. The Dolphins were 148/4 and leading by 36 runs.

Dane Vilas and Sibz Makhanya put together a potent partnership of 113 for the fifth wicket with both batsmen going past 50.

Makhanya was then caught for a solid 53, however the Dolphins then lost two more wickets on the same score.

Both night watchman Kerwin Mungroo and Rob Frylinck were dismissed without scoring.

Heading into the final day of the clash, Dane Vilas is not out on 69 and Keshav Maharaj resumes on three not out.

The Dolphins lead the hosts by 153 runs.
