Dolphins fall to Titans in the capital

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins lost their key T20 Challenge clash to the Multiply Titans at the Pietermaritzburg Oval on Saturday by eight wickets on a pitch full of runs.

The win revitalises the defending champions title race, and sets up a high-road route for the Durban side for the busy week ahead, as both sides came into the Oval showdown with just one win to their credit at the midway stage of the competition.

Having been asked to bat first the Dolphins started solidly after losing Sarel Erwee cheaply. Cody Chetty and Morne van Wyk added a spritely 89 runs for the second wicket, with Chetty flaying the Titans bowlers to all corners of the ground en route to his 56 off 36 balls.

Van Wyk went on to score his half century before he fell to Junior Dala for 55. Andile Phehlukwayo and Robbie Frylinck then put together a brisk fifty-run partnership for the fourth wicket, helping the hosts to a 20-over total of 185/4.

In reply the visitors started cautiously as bowlers Darryn du Pavillon and Prenelan Subrayen in particular prevented them from scoring freely.

Subrayen, accounted for both Tony de Zorzi (24) and Henry Davids (42), and earned the bowler of the match award for his tight contribution of two for 28 from his four overs.

Theunis de Bruyn settled in quickly, and his measured half century left the visitors in control of the run-chase. He finished unbeaten on 72 off 32 balls as he added a hundred runs for the third wicket with Jonathan Vandiar, finishing the match off with a six in the nineteenth over to wrap up the eight wicket win.
