Dolphins and Titans play out to fighting draw

Centurion – With the match delicately poised on the final afternoon at SuperSport Park Centurion, bad light brought a premature end to the CSA 4-Day Domestic Series clash between the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and the Momentum Multiply Titans on Tuesday.

Both sides would have fancied their chances during the final session on day four, however a result was curtailed by the weather and the sides had to settle for a draw.

Starting the final day with the bat the Dolphins had Slade van Staden and Brad Proteous to thank for a strong start.

The young pair added 63 to the Dolphins total in the morning session and they were responsible for taking the Dolphins to strong total.

Porteous was the first wicket to fall on the day when he was caught behind off the bowling of Junior Dala for 51, a second half century of the match for Porteous.

Andile Simelane made 18 and was providing the ideal partner for Van Staden who was edging closer to a maiden first-class century.

Unfortunately for the Dolphins, Simelane was caught for 18 with the Dolphins on 322. Van Staden fell with the Dolphins still on 322, caught off the bowling of Dala for a well-played 93.

Van Staden faced 136 balls and hit 12 fours in his innings that held the Dolphins innings together.

The Dolphins couldn’t add to that score when Okuhle Cele was the last wicket to fall and the Dolphins were bowled out for 322, setting the Titans 207 to win on the final afternoon.

It was a solid start for the Dolphins with the ball when they bagged two early wickets with Neil Brand and Dean Elgar falling cheaply.

Brand was caught behind off the bowling of Cele while Elgar was trapped in front by Ottniel Baartman for four.

Matthew Kleinveldt and Dewald Brevis put together a strong partnership of 82 for the third wicket and brought the required total down to just over 100.

Cele bagged his second wicket when he had Kleinveldt caught for 35.

Baartman then picked up the wicket of Sibz Makhanya and the Dolphins had the Titans 111/4 and were six wickets away from victory, and the Titans still needed 96 runs to win.

Ultimately with the Titans 136 for four and Dewald Brevis on 58 and Donovan Ferreira not out on seven bad light intervened and the players were unable to get back on the field which meant the match ended in a draw.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins will face the GBets Rocks in their next match in the competition from 30 November to 3 December.
