Durban – Hollywoodbets Crusaders Cricket Club were recently crowned champions of the CSA T20 Community Cup in Johannesburg over the weekend.
Crusaders went into their final match with Travelling Reefs Cricket Club from the North West needing to win in order to claim the trophy and in a match reduced to just 18 overs a side they cantered home to a nine wicket victory.
Having lost just one match heading into the final round of fixtures, Crusaders’ closest title contenders Jendamark United Cricket Club from the Eastern Cape had their final match abandoned which meant the Durban side needed a win to secure the title.
After restricting Travelling Reefs to just 113/9 in their 18 overs, it was Jordan Grobelaar who headlined their revised target of 42 from six overs.
Grobelaar finished on 25 not out off 13 balls while Rob Frylinck made 9 not out.
Opening bowler Cameron Gordon bagged 3/24 with Frylinck picking up two wickets and Slindokhule Nkabinde also snagging two scalps.
Earlier in the week Crusaders suffered their only loss in their opening match against United but they followed up that mishap with wins over Christian Brothers College Old Boys from the Titans, Vredenberg Saldanha from Boland and Bobbie Cricket from the Free State to put them in a position to win the title on the final day.
“Well done to the Hollywoodbets Crusaders team on their CSA T20 Community Cup win,” CEO of KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom said.
“It’s always a privilege to represent your club as well as your province on the national stage and to win the competition is a cherry on the top.
“We pride ourselves on having a competitive club system in the province and this result proves that we continue to produce strong club sides.”
