Coastal do the double over Border

Durban – Hollywoodbets KwaZulu-Natal Coastal wrapped up an impressive weekend with a ten wicket win in the CSA 3-day Provincial Cup and a 155 run victory in the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge against Border in East London.

Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal captain Calvin Savage’s decision to bowl first in the red ball match paid dividends early on in the match as Zakhele Qwabe made quick inroads with the new ball as he removed the first three batters with only 32 runs on the board.

Keith Dudgeon, who shared the new ball with Qwabe, joined the party and picked up two quick wickets.

Border’s Clayton Bosch and Bamanye Xenxe tried to consolidate the innings with a 47 run partnership.

However, Savage had other plans as he removed both batsmen before Qwabe came back to pick up his fourth wicket of the inning.

The home side was eventually bowled out for just 124.

In reply, the Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal side began their innings indifferently before opening batsman Bradley Porteous dropped anchor and played a match-defining knock alongside Andile Mokgakane.

The two batters combined for a healthy 80 run partnership before Mokgakane was dismissed for a patient 38.

The wicket brought the Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal Captain to the crease and Savage didn’t take long to get up and running as he gelled with Porteous for a solid fifty run partnership before Porteous went to a well-played 100 to put the Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal in the driving seat.

With the score on 317/7, Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal declared on the second day of the three-day affair. Porteous finished on a superb 171 runs, and leaving the Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal side in control of the match.

In Border’s second innings the KZN Coastal bowlers were all over the home side’s batting order as they took wickets at regular intervals.

Border was dismissed for 211, leaving KZN Coastal needing just 21 runs to win, and Michael Erlank and Porteous needed only four overs to complete a well-deserved victory.

On Sunday, the two teams swapped the red ball for the white ball and Border elected to bowl first.

Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal batters Thamsanqa Khumalo and Khalipha Cele combined for an 87-run opening stand before Khumalo departed for a fighting 55.

Porteous and Savage continued their good weekend as they combined for a 47 run partnership, the former scored a 61-ball 64 and the latter 43 to set the home side a challenging 297 for victory.

With the ball, Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal continued their dominance over their opponents as the hosts lost the first four wickets for 58 runs.

Keith Dudgeon and Yves Kamanzi claimed two wickets apiece and Qwabe was leading wicket-taker on the day with three scalps to his name.

Border was bowled out for 142 and Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal claimed a 155 run victory and bagged five points in the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge.
