8 wicket Abbott spearheads Dolphins win over Titans

Kyle Abbott grabbed a five-wicket bag as the Sunfoil Dolphins took less than an hour to record an innings victory over The Unlimited Titans on day four of their Sunfoil Series match at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead.

Abbott picked up the remaining three wickets to finish with figures of 5 for 49 in the second innings as the Titans were bowled out for 246 to lose by an innings and 54 runs.

The fast bowler’s 8 for 94 in the match confirmed that he remains in excellent form should he be required for the third Sunfoil Test against the West Indies at Newlands on Friday.

The Titans were 175 for seven overnight, and elected to go down fighting with David Wiese and Marchant de Lange swinging from the hip.

Wiese scored 27 runs from 29 balls at the start of the day before Abbott had him caught at short leg for 32, and the fast bowler was rewarded for his perseverance as he soldiered on for a seven-over spell and grabbed the wickets of Junior Dala and Rowan Richards.

De Lange was left stranded on 33 from 37 balls as he maintained his aggressive approach.

The Dolphins picked up 19.68 points from the match to lodge themselves firmly in mid-table after their first two games, while the Titans earned 4.16, which helped them leap-frog the Lions at the top of the table – although they have played a game more.
