Rain spoils Mother City’s Dolphins and Cape Cobras clash

Mother Nature had the final say in the CSA T20 Challenge clash between the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and BuildNat Cape Cobras at PPC Newlands in Cape Town on Wednesday, 23 November, leaving the two teams to share the points without a ball being bowled.

While the toss took place – which the Dolphins won and with weather around, opted to bowl first – both teams were forced to watch from the change rooms for the remainder of the evening as the rain started to fall shortly after the coin came down and left the ground staff frustratingly taking the covers on and off sporadically.

With Kevin Pietersen having headed back Down Under ahead of the Proteas’ third and final Test match clash against Australia in Adelaide, top order batsman Vaughn van Jaarsveld returned to the starting lineup after missing out against the Multiply Titans in Bloemfontein on Sunday.

The KZN Franchise’s second change came on the bowling front with fit-again fast bowler Rabian Engelbrecht selected ahead of spinner, Prenelan Subrayen.

Neither were afforded to the opportunity to leave their mark on proceedings though as all the Dolphins could leave Cape Town with were two points to their name, moving them up one notch to third place on the log after their four encounters.

The Dolphins’ four-match and eight day long road trip continues on Friday when they return to Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein, this time to face up to the VKB Knights before they head to Bidvest Wanderers in Johannesburg on Sunday for a clash against the bizhub Highveld Lions.
