Oudtshoorn test up next for Dolphins

Durban – Following their draw with the Multiply Titans on Thursday, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins next travel to Oudtshoorn for a Sunfoil Series clash with the WSB Cape Cobras from Monday, 23 to Thursday, 26 October.

It was a fighting performance from the men from Durban against the Centurion-based franchise as they were continuously playing catch up which ultimately meant they had to guts out a draw on the final day.

Despite the team showing fighting characteristics, coach Grant Morgan would like to see his side be in stronger positions where they can put the opposition under pressure.

“If we could score 400 in the second innings, why couldn’t we do it in the first?” he said candidly.

“There are questions that we need to ask ourselves considering the wicket in Maritzburg was never going to get easier.

“Having a never-say-die attitude is great but it would be nice to be in the position of strength where we are the team making the plays and dictating terms.”

The draw has seen the Dolphins drop to the foot of the Sunfoil Series table, this despite every game of the season ending in draws.

“There really isn’t a lot in it at the moment with just nine points between the top and the bottom.

“With sixteen points available for a win the log could change quite dramatically after the next round,” Morgan added.

The Dolphins will be without in-form opening batsman Sarel Erwee who jets off to Hong Kong to represent South Africa in the Hong Kong Sixes tournament.

Having lost a form player in Erwee, the Dolphins will look to the likes of Vaughn van Jaarsveld and second innings centurion Cody Chetty with new-comer Dane Vilas also getting amongst the runs in Pietermaritzburg with a positive half century in his second knock.

Captain Khaya Zondo has also been in the runs for the Dolphins and opener Senuran Muthusamy registered his first half century of the campaign in their first innings in Pietermaritzburg.

The Dolphins will take a squad of 14 players to the Western Cape with Eathan Bosch, Smangaliso Nhlebela and Keith Dudgeon all being selected in the squad.

Unfortunately for the Dolphins they will not have seamer Rabian Engelbrecht back for the clash as he is still recovering from a hand injury he picked up in their first clash with the Titans at Centurion.
