The Sunfoil township development team travelled to Gauteng Soweto Thurs 26th March – Sun 29th March to participate in the 2015 Sunfoil Gauteng night Soweto tournament.
After participating in this tournament for the last four years, it is with great excitement that we announce that our boys have finally brought back the trophy after participating against 10 teams from 2 provinces.
Linda Zondi, KZNCU Township Development Manager said “I am very pleased in the manner & the standard that the boys displayed in the 4th annual tournament. This is a great example of how the KZNCU township program is bearing fruits. I foresee that a majority of our boys will stand a good chance to represent KZN U/13 provincial school teams at the end of 2015.”
Pete De Wet, Sunfoil Dolphins and KZNCU CEO said “I am extremely proud of the great work that has been achieved by our Township Development Programme – and this result bears testimony to the fact that cricket development is working in our province. We are starting to identify future Sunfoil Dolphin stars, and this is an extremely exciting place to be in, given the vital importance of transformation in our game.”
Faeez Jaffar, KZNCU President and Chairman of the Sunfoil Dolphins said, “Our township programme continues to unearth talent. It has been amazing to see how quick it has emerged as a sport in the Township. This 8 year programme of ours has produced talented Cricketers. Many of our boys are now in cricket playing schools. Some boys have already played in the Provincial School Teams.”
“Winning the tournament in Gauteng this year, shows that our boys can compete as equals at any level. This team has made us proud.
“It will be a proud moment for us, when one of youngsters from this winning team walks out at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead in a Dolphins Shirt.
“Dolphins Cricket is in a healthy space at the moment.”
