Bloemfontein – Two fighting second innings centuries from Sarel Erwee and Dane Vilas earned the Hollywoodbets Dolphins a draw against the VKB Knights in their Sunfoil Series clash that ended on Sunday.
Day four saw the Dolphins still trailing the hosts by 54 runs with Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Sarel Erwee at the crease. The former was the first wicket to fall when he was caught for 51.
Erwee then fell immediately after Van Jaarsveld when he also caught, this time off the bowling of Marchant de Lange for a match-saving 128.
Sibz Makhanya was the next to fall for a duck before the pair of Dane Vilas and Senuran Muthusamy got together and take the game out of the hands of the Knights.
They put on 179 runs for the fifth wicket and took the Dolphins’ lead to 185 before the match was called a draw.
Vilas finished with 102 not out while Muthusamy continued his good form backing up his first innings half century with 73 not out.
The draw is the sixth of the season for the Dolphins as the sit in fourth place on the Sunfoil Series log.
Next up for the Dolphins is a trip to Port Elizabeth where they will play the Warriors from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 February.
