Following a disappointing Oppo Champions League T20 campaign, the Sunfoil Dolphins are back home and raring to go with the Momentum One-Day Cup kicking off on Friday when the team travels to Pretoria to take on The Unlimited Titans with a strong blend of experience and youthful exuberance.
The squad is made up predominantly by those who did duty in India recently but encouragingly includes Proteas leg spinner Imran Tahir as well as hard hitting batsman David Miller, who was playing for the Kings XI Punjab during the CLT20.
The team will be captained by Morné van Wyk and the side will be hoping they can adjust quickly from the T20 to the 50-over format against a strong Titans line-up.
Miller’s to the side sees the batting line-up strengthened greatly and it is expected he together with his captain, Cameron Delport, Khaya Zondo, Cody Chetty and Vaughn van Jaarsveld will be the men responsible for making the bulk of the runs for the Durban-based franchise.
The side also includes the up-and-coming all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo who equipped himself well on the tour of India and has received nothing but praise from coach Lance Klusener. The 18-year-old produced the knock of the innings for the Dolphins in their last Champions League game against the Kolkata Knight Riders and looked comfortable against the class of Sunil Narine.
Tahir has been one of the stand-out bowlers for the national side in recent times and will add another dimension to the Dolphins’ bowling attack with Daryn Smit also able to fill a role as a spinner.
The Sunfoil Dolphins play The Unlimited Titans at Supersport Park on Friday 10 October. The match starts at 15:00.
Morne van Wyk, Cameron Delport, Cody Chetty, Khaya Zondo, David Miller, Daryn Smit, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Robbie Frylinck, Kyle Abbott, Imran Tahir, Craig Alexander, Sibonelo Makhanya and Andile Phehlukwayo.
