Hashim Amla, renowned Dolphins batsman, dominated the 2010 SA Cricket Awards last night at the Sandton Convention Centre. After being nominated in six categories, Amla was victorious in taking home five of these awards with the most prestigious being the SA Cricketer of the Year.
“Hashim is an example to all and it is with pride that we salute him for his phenomenal year,” commented the President of the Kwazulu Natal Cricket Union (KZNCU), AK Khan.
The awards kept coming as Amla received the second major cricket award for the evening - Test Cricketer of the Year which was handed over to him by Rob Flemming from Castle.
The new Mini Cricket sponsor, KFC then awarded Hashim with the KFC “So Good!” Award which is awarded for an individual performance and this recognized his mammoth, match-winning knock of 253 not out in the first Test against India at Nagpur.
Brett Proctor, Supersport commentator had this to say of Hashim’s awards. “Hash’s success is a vivid example of this discipline, dedication and commitment. Coupled with his talent and flair he is now not only one of the finest players in our country… but in the world.”
Hashim also took home the SA Players’ Player of the Year nominated by the players, and CSA Fans’ Cricketer of the Year.
Jesse Chellan, CEO of KZNCU was at the Awards and commented, “It is an extremely proud day for all of us at KZNCU as we acknowledge and recognize Hashim’s exceptional talent. He has had an outstanding season, and his performances have been nothing short of breathtaking. We look forward to honoring him at our Annual Awards ceremony this Friday night.”
The Kwazulu Natal Cricket Union and Durban and Districts Cricket Union will be holding their Annual Awards Ceremony this Friday 23 July under the stars in a marquee at Sahara Stadium, Kingsmead. The ceremony recognizes performances in Challenge league, Premier League and Women’s League cricket. This is followed by Inter-district Awards and Provincial Awards. |
