Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Sunday welcomed the announcement in India that South Africa will host the prestigious 2010 Airtel Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) from 10-26 September. Gerald Majola, CSA CEO, said: “This means that CSA will have hosted all of world cricket’s top tournaments and reaffirms South Africa as a preferred venue for major sports events
“Top teams from seven of the top cricketing nations will be competing and this will be an extraordinary start to the 2010/2011 season at home. “Public interest in cricket in South Africa has never been higher, and this tournament featuring the world’s most exciting players will boost this popularity even further.” Dr Mtutuzeli Nyoka, CSA President, said: “The awarding of the hosting rights to CSA is a massive compliment once again to its operational expertise. “It confirms CSA’s reputation as one of the most respected administrative bodies in world cricket. “It is also a significant vote of confidence in South Africa as a safe and secure destination for major sports events coming on the eve of the FIFA World Cup 2010 here. “It is yet another reason to be very proud to be a South African”. Three venues for the tournament will be chosen by the CLT20 Governing Council in conjunction with CSA. The teams, venues, and fixtures will be announced at a later date. CSA is a shareholder in the Airtel Champions League Twenty20, along with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket Australia (CA). |
