CSA and Proteas 100% behind Bafana Bafana PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 22 April 2010

Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the Proteas on Wednesday launched their 100% Behind Bafana Bafana campaign to coincide with 50 days to the World Cup.

The campaign, which aims to show South Africans that all national teams deserve their 100% support, has been endorsed by the South African Football Association (SAFA).

SAFA CEO, Leslie Sedibe, said: “SAFA and Bafana Bafana appreciate the support of CSA and the Proteas. We look forward to their 100% support during the World Cup.”

The CSA family has been supportive of the Football Friday initiative, with head office staff regularly wearing their Bafana Bafana shirts, while counting down the days to kickoff with enthusiasm.

CSA also uses its online platforms, Facebook and Twitter, to show its 100% support for Bafana Bafana, and encourage the cricket family to throw their weight behind this historic event.
The Proteas, who will be on a nine week tour in the Caribbean for the majority of the football showpiece, return to South Africa in the first week of July, in the hope of attending matches during the business end of the World Cup.

Proteas captain, Graeme Smith said: “I would just like to wish Bafana Bafana, and Aaron (Mokoena) in particular, a wonderful 2010 World Cup. We know they will make South Africa proud  and they must just know that we are behind them 100% all the way.”

Proteas speedster, Dale Steyn, said: “To Bafana Bafana, from the entire Proteas side, we wish you the best of luck for the World Cup. We won’t be there but we will be supporting you all the way from the Caribbean.”

Batting superstar, JP Duminy, said: “To Bafana Bafana, all the best for the 2010 World Cup.”

CSA President, Dr Mtutuzeli Nyoka, said: "The hosting of this World Cup is a very proud moment for South Africa. The whole CSA cricketing family will be rooting for its success and being 100% behind Bafana Bafana, the pride of the nation."

CSA CEO, Gerald Majola, said: "South African cricket's blood will be green and gold for Bafana Bafana. We are with the boys all the way!".

Proteas cricket fans are also showing their 100% support for Bafana Bafana, especially online at CSA’s popular Facebook fans page.

Speaking of how she shows her 100% support for Bafana Bafana, one fan, a mother of two, Melani Strachan, said: “ I’m going to do it by telling my two kids (age 4 and 8) who know nothing about soccer (cos the TV is always on the cricket) about that great day in Joburg when Bafana lifted the trophy and the street celebrations we all took part in. What a great unifying time it was!!! Hopefully, they will be inspired and we can get some of that “together we stand spirit” back again.”

Another fan, Mohammed Ra’ees Gani, said: “I got the vuvuzela, getting my shirt, the makaraba, those huge sunglasses, the face paint, and 100% backing of the boys… We gonna rock this World Cup as South Africans… The world is gonna have a different perception of Africa after this World Cup.”

Another ardent Proteas fans, Widor Heyns, contributed by saying: “I am not just a cricket fan, I’m a South African fan, so it doesn’t matter what sport I will always support our country. It is great to see that Graeme Smith is 100% behind Bafana Bafana.

“I would love to see SA beating Mexico in the first match, and if they do, I’m sure it will get them even more support from the people that aren’t so confident that Bafana will do a good job at the World Cup. I also wish our boys good luck at the World T20 and if we win it, I’m sure it will give Bafana Bafana some inspiration to do the country proud in June. PURE PROTEA 100% SOUTH AFRICAN.”
