Delhi Daredevils grounded the high-flying Royal Challengers Bangalore by 17 runs in Match 20 of the IPL-

2010 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.

Delhi Daredevils, who lost three successive matches, restricted Royal Challengers to 166/9 in 20 overs for a morale-boosting win. This was the first reverse for Royal Challengers Bangalore after four wins on the trot. It was a better all round display by Delhi Daredevils who were the better team on the day.

Maharashtra Ranji player Kedar Jadhav, along with Victorian all-rounder Andrew McDonald, boosted the Delhi Daredevils’ total to 183/4. The fifth wicket pair added 49 runs in 3.5 overs. The 24-year-old debutant Jadhav struck a breezy, unbeaten 50 (29 balls, 5x4, 2x6).

Put into bat, Delhi Daredevils were off to a blazing start. They reached 50 in 4.1 overs as the 23-year-old Australian dashing opener David Warner clubbed three fours and two sixes. (33 off 14 balls). But South African pace bowler Dale Steyn stopped the rampaging Warner. The batsman failed to clear the long-off fielder to be caught by Vinay Kumar.

Vinay Kumar, who has been an impressive performer, got into the act by taking the all- important wicket of the dangerous Virender Sehwag (12). The Indian opener miscued a slower one from Kumar and skier was held at covers by Virat Kohli who nearly collided with Eoin Morgan. Royal Challengers Bangalore captured their third wicket at 101 with skipper Dinesh Karthik being run out in an unfortunate way. South African AB de Villiers, who looked in good touch, drove Steyn but it touched the bowler’s finger before hitting on to the non-striker stumps with Karthik (17) out of the crease. A superb throw by Morgan from covers ran out De Villiers for 45 (35 balls, 3x4). Swing bowler Praveen Kumar gave away 45 runs in his four overs and Steyn 42 runs.

Manish Pandey (39 off 29 balls, 4x4, 1x6) and Jacques Kallis (27 off 29 balls, 3x4) shared 71 runs in 9.1 overs for Royal Challengers Bangalore. But leg spinner Amit Mishra broke the partnership by bowling Kallis, the tournament’s highest scorer. Royal Challengers Bangalore, who were cruising smoothly, lost the direction when three more wickets fell in a space of 19 runs. They were reduced to 90/4 in 12 overs.

Pandey played a wrong line to McDonald and was bowled, Rahul Dravid was run out for 1 and last match’s hero Robin Uthappa was caught by wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik, who held the top edge of a reverse sweep and it was Mishra’s second wicket. Delhi Daredevils were in the driver’s seat when Morgan (17) was run out while Mark Boucher was dismissed for two only. Royal Challengers were reeling at 123/6 in 15.4 overs. De Villiers pulled off a magnificent catch at long-off that saw the back of Praveen Kumar.

This match was originally scheduled to be held on Saturday but was advanced to Thursday because of local elections.
