The Standard Bank Pro20 match between the Nashua Dolphins and the Nashua Titans was abandoned due to rain in Durban on Wednesday night.

The Dolphins posted 86 for three after winning the toss and batting first.

They reached 80 for three after 13 overs when rain stopped play at 19h05. Ahmed Amla and David Miller, who was dropped on two by Roelof van der Merwe, were at the crease on 28 and 25 respectively but it was the latter that provided the Kingsmead faithful something to cheer about. He faced 19 balls and hit one four and two mighty sixes over long on  while the former faced 35 balls and hit two four’s. When play resumed at 20h25 the Dolphins had to face one more over after their innings was reduced to 14 overs after an 80 minute rain delay but that was not to be as they only faced a further three balls for the addition of six runs when the heavens opened again. Amla was unbeaten on 29 from 36 balls while Miller was undefeated on 30 from 21 balls. The pair shared in an unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 42 runs.

Captain Imraan Khan was the first wicket to fall when he mistimed a hook to be caught by wicket-keeper Heino Kuhn off Ethy Mbahlati for seven. Loots Bosman was the next wicket to fall when he was run out for five courtesy of a direct hit by Roelof van der Merwe. At that stage, the Dolphins were on 36. Eight runs later, they lost the wicket of Dale Benkenstein when he was caught by Jacques Rudolf off Albie Morkel for 13.

Mbahlati finished with one for 15 from three overs while Morkel took one for 12 from two overs and three balls.

Unfortunately, the rain did not stop within the cut-off time of 21h05 which resulted in the umpires calling off the game.

Both teams get two points from the game.

The Dolphins next encounter is on Sunday , February 7 against the Chevrolet Warriors at the Sahara Stadium Kingsmead.
