The KZNU is currently hosting the FIFA Volunteer Programme Interview process at the Sahara Stadium Kingsmead.

“We are currently conducting interviews on possible candidates who have applied to become volunteers for the World Cup. It started on January 19 and will run until February 13, “said Cassim Docrat, the former CEO of the KZNCU and now part of the interview committee.

A staggering 6000 applications were received for Durban since the process opened in July 2009.

“At the moment, we are busy interviewing the candidates that applied in July and August last year. The candidates selected from these interviews will be informed at the end of February and will then have to attend a three day training session in April at the Durban Exhibition Centre where they will learn more about the role of a volunteer at the World Cup,” said Alpha Mchunu, the volunteer co-ordinator for FIFA.

“The applicants have shown passion and enthusiasm. They want to be part of this and deliver a world class event. We have had people from all walks of life like doctors, lawyers, academics apply to be a volunteer,” he added.

The interviews are taking place at the King’s Club at the South Stand at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead.
