Race is on for Second Place PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 18 November 2009

THE Nashua Titans will not be in action this weekend but they will nevertheless be keenly interested as to who their main rivals are going to be as the SuperSport Series nears the halfway mark.

The Titans, the defending champions, currently have a lead of 15 points over the Chevrolet Warriors but any one of four teams could be in second place by the end of the weekend.

The Warriors are at home to the fourth-placed Diamond Eagles at Buffalo Park while the bottom placed Nashua Cape Cobras travel to Sahara Stadium Kingsmead for a showdown with the fifth-placed Nashua Dolphins.

Both the Titans and the bizhub Highveld Lions have a bye.

Both the Diamond Eagles and the Cape Cobras have a game in hand over their franchise rivals as a result of their participation in the Champions’ League in India.

The former are only 6.8 points behind the Warriors and could leapfrog both the Lions and the Warriors into second place. The home side will, however, be no easy touch with a batting line-up that includes Ashwell Prince and Arno and Davy Jacobs.

In spite of the absence of Johan Botha, Wayne Parnell and Lonwabo Tsotsobe they still have a formidable attack spearheaded by Makhaya Ntini and Rusty Theron.

The Diamond Eagles have been major contributors to the successful South Africa A side this season and will also put a formidable array of talent in the field.

The Dolphins and the Cobras are both without a win in this competition and it is hard to predict which way the fortunes will go. The former appear to be on an upwards curve and home ground advantage will no doubt count as well.

Victory would put them right back in the mix and it could move them up to second place.

Latest log positions: Nashua Titans 48.90 (after 4 matches), Chevrolet Warriors 33.84 (4), bizhub Highveld Lions 29.48 (4), Diamond Eagles 27.04 (3), Nashua Dolphins 25.62 (4), Nashua Cape Cobras 17.00 (3).
