Standard Bank Academy to undergo final exam

The Standard Bank National Academy will be looking to impress in their final assessment when they take on the visiting Bangladesh Academy in the first four-day match of the series on Friday. The teams will play two four-day matches, three 50-over matches and two Pro20 matches over the next month.

“The players have put in a lot of hard work and the start of this important series will be the final exam of their progress so far. We have a lot of quality players in the squad and hopefully the guys can go out there and give an all-round performance, ” remarked coach, Ray Jennings.

CSA Board backs Majola

Board of Directors of Cricket South Africa (CSA) convened an urgent board meeting on Thursday to consider the dispute brought against CSA by the Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB). The Board issued the following statement after the meeting.

The Board firstly considered the overall high level report by CSA CEO Gerald Majola regarding the hosting of the 2009 Indian Premier  League in South Africa.

Emerging Players’ unbeaten run continues

The South Africa Emerging Players will play India in the Final of the 2009 Emerging Players Tournament at the Allan Border Field on Saturday. South Africa thrashed Australia Institute of Sport (AIS) by 183 runs on Thursday, and were the top team at the end of the preliminary rounds. The match was of academic importance to the players, who had already secured a place in the final, but they were clinical on their path to victory.

Emerging players depart for Australia

The country’s most promising players on Friday departed for the 2009 Emerging Players Tournament in Australia, for two weeks of tightly contested cricket against squads from New Zealand India and Australia. The Emerging Players squad will play in eight 50-over matches and two 20-over games with the final taking place on 1 August.

CSA names provisional ICC Champions Trophy squad

CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) on Monday named a provisional squad of 20 players for the ICC Champions Trophy tournament to be held in South Africa in September.

The squad will be reduced to a final squad of 15 closer to the start of the tournament.
