PROTEAS START PREPARING FOR CHAMPIONS’ TOURNAMENT

THE Proteas will regroup this week on Friday for the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Season Launch at the Birchwood Hotel. All CSA contracted players will be present.

The Proteas’ Standard Bank ODI squad will go into camp at Potchefstroom at the weekend to prepare for the ICC Champions’ Trophy tournament.

There will be cricket specific training from Monday to Wednesday and these sessions will be open to the media for visuals. There will also be daily media conferences if there is sufficient demand.

Klusener embarks on Coaching Career

CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) announced on Friday that Lance Klusener had cut his ties with the Indian Cricket League (ICL) and had been reinstated in CSA’s structures.

The return of Klusener, who won the Player of the Tournament award at the 1999 ICC World Cup, should be a huge boost for cricket in KwaZulu-Natal with the experience, skills and knowledge that he brings to the game.

CSA pays Tribute to Wilf Diedricks

CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) on Wednesday paid tribute to former international umpire Wilf Diedricks who passed away this week after being in poor health for some time. He was 62 years old. 

He stood in one Test match between India and South Africa at Sahara Oval St. George’s during the 192/93 season – the Proteas’ first winning Test match after unity – and in a considerable number of limited overs internationals.

Early start to Franchise Season

CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) on Tuesday announced the domestic franchise fixture list for the 2009/10 season in what promises to be a jam-packed summer of high quality activity.

There have been no changes to the formats of any of the three competitions – the four-day SuperSport Series, the 50 overs MTN Domestic Championship and the Standard Bank Domestic Pro20 – but what has changed is that the domestic professional season will start in September.

CSA and GCB commit to work together for cricket

Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB) have agreed that there is a need for transformation of cricket in the province, which will entail the restructuring of the GCB to make it more representative. Both CSA and GCB have agreed to enter into processes as set out fully in the agreement between the parties.

Steyn cleared of doping violation

CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) announced on Wednesday that the Indian Premier League (IPL) had cleared Proteas’ fast bowler Dale Steyn of any doping violation.

“There was a discrepancy in the result of a doping test during the IPL,” commented CSA CEO Gerald Majola, “but the authorities are perfectly satisfied with the explanation that Dale has provided and they have confirmed that no offence has been committed.”

He added that CSA remained totally committed to the International Cricket Council’s anti-doping programme.

Steyn will link up with the rest of the Proteas’ Standard Bank ODI squad for their training camp at Potchefstroom at the end of the month ahead of the ICC Champions’ Trophy which CSA will be hosting in September and October.
