KZN’s Zondi new CSA selection convener

Among the decisions taken by Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) Board of Directors during their meeting in Johannesburg on Tuesday, was that of the appointment of KwaZulu-Natal’s Linda Zondi as Convener of Selectors for the national team.

Following a proposal from the Nominations Committee, the Board approved the recommendation made in respect of the new selection panel for the national team.

Linda Zondi was appointed as the new Convener of the National Selection panel while the other three independent selectors appointed to the national selection panel are Hussein Manack, former Sunfoil Dolphins and Proteas wicket-keeper/batsman Errol Stewart and Ashwell Prince with Russell Domingo – whose contract as Head Coach of the Proteas was extended until 30 April 2017 during the same meeting – serving as the fifth member of the selection panel.

“I wish to thank the previous selection panel for the important role played by them and welcome on board the new selection panel” said CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat.

“Linda was part of the previous selection panel and I want to congratulate him on his progression to the convener role. It is an important role and his past experience on the panel plus as the Dolphins selection convener and as the convener of the national U/19 selection panel will all stand him in good stead.

“He has established an outstanding record in identifying young talent as was seen with his contribution to the success of last year’s ICC under/19 World Cup campaign.”

“The Panel’s appointment takes effect immediately and will be for a two year-period,” added Lorgat.
