Cobras wrap up victory at Pmb Oval

THE Nashua Cape Cobras ended an otherwise disappointing Sunfoil Series campaign on a high note as they wrapped up an innings victory over the Sunfoil Dolphins at the City Oval.

Going into the match, the Cobras had only registered one win all season, but they added a second in style by bowling the Dolphins out for 235 in their second innings to win the game by an innings and 117 runs.

The overwhelming victory gave the Cobras 21.62 points from the game, which not only ensured that they avoided the wooden spoon but also lifted them up to fourth in the final standings.

By contrast, the Dolphins earned just 3.09 points, allowing the Titans to leapfrog them into second place.

The added bonus for the Cobras was that Dane Paterson’s match haul of 7 for 120 sealed his spot at the top of the competition’s wicket-taking chart.

The fast bowler ended the campaign with 42 wickets from his nine games at an average of 22.54.

Paterson got the ball rolling on the final day when he dismissed Daryn Smit early on, before Beuran Hendricks (3 for 32) grabbed the last three wickets of the match – including that of centurion Morne van Wyk (122), who added just one run to his overnight score.

The Dolphins thus fell from their overnight total of 226 for six to 235 all out in under 10 overs.
